Why can’t I connect to the password manager?

The error message "cannot connect to password manager" can have several causes.

If you are using incognito mode, the G DATA Passwort Manager extension must be enabled in the browser settings for this.

The connection to Chrome is configured via the file:

%appdata%\G DATA\Password Manager\NativeCredentialProvider.json

If you do not have this file and none of the following solutions help, please reinstall the Chrome plugin.

Entry in the hosts file of your computer

First, check whether the file

%windir%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

contains the following entry:

127.0.0.1 gdpwmgrlocalhost
Die host-Datei lässt sich mithilfe des Windows-Editors öffnen.

Fehlendes Zertifikat im Browser

Then check whether the certificate is present in the browser you are using. Open the following URL in your browser: https://gdpwmgrlocalhost:56894/v1/whoareyou.

If a version number is displayed, the certificate is present. If you see a security message "This is not a secure connection", click ‘Advanced’ and then click "Proceed to gdpwmgrlocalhost (insecure)".

Then click Add Security Exception.

Damage to the safe

Using manual line breaks in notes will damage the safe formatting so that they can no longer be created. If the safe file is still available, you can proceed as follows:

1

Open your G DATA software and go to the Password Manager tab.

2

Secure the safe with the Export Passwords button, select the CSV file option.

3

Then click on Passwortsafe > Neuen Safe anlegen to create a new safe.

4

Then load the saved password safe using the Import Password Safe button.
